The KAROLINE WEIDT Quartet combines the energy and complexity of jazz with the catchiness of pop. Every note and every structure has meaning and refers to a noble aesthetic. The young ensemble has already received several awards and has garnered outstanding reviews for both its debut EP “The Dream” and its debut album “Inviting”.

Energetically virtuosic and sensitively filigree, singer Karoline Weidt and pianist Mikolaj Suchanek interpret jazz and pop pieces. With musical communication and spontaneity, the duo creates special moments throughout. They play imaginative and personal interpretations of well-known pieces and Karoline’s compositions.

Karoline Weidt and Munich-based singer Kilian Sladek make poetry sound fresh. The starting point for their collaboration was the Bundesjazzorchester. In addition to a high artistic standard, their joint composition process focuses on generating good energy. Their creative rhythmic arrangements and direct interaction with the audience make for an unusual and entertaining concert evening.

About Karoline Weidt

The 28-year-old singer, composer, and bandleader lives in Munich and inspires national and international jazz audiences with her music. As a singer of the Bundesjazzorchester (2018-2020) she toured the USA, Canada, and Israel and has performed with her bands on festival stages worldwide, e.g. Deutsche Woche Kaliningrad (RU, 2021), Mandava Jazz Festival (CZE, 2021), Palaissommer Dresden (2021), International Freepsumer Gitarrenfestival (2019), Jazzfestival Moritzbastei Leipzig (2018), and many more.

From the first note, she creates an intense mood, makes spherical vocals float with lightness, and stands at the centre of sound with her natural presence. For her “clarity of expression and attention to detail,” she was awarded the 2023 BMW Young Artist Jazz Award. In its statement, the jury said: “Jazz singing itself is now difficult to reinvent. So it is even more crucial for singers to put their personality on the line.”

Her KAROLINE WEIDT Quartet, founded in 2020 with bassist Loreen Sima, drummer Valentin Steinle and pianist Mikolaj Suchanek, has already won several awards, such as the hfmdd ensemble competition (2021), New Generation jazzlab (Festival da Jazz, St. Moritz (CH), 2021), Junger Münchner Jazzpreis (2021) and Blue Note Poznań Jazz Competition (2022). The debut EP “The Dream”, released in 2021, generated outstanding media coverage:

“Versatile, unexpected and very finely crafted” (Ulrich Habersetzer, BR Klassik)

“Formation of highly gifted musicians” (Wolfgang Fricke, thatjazz.de)

“Incredibly musical, melodious” (Laura Wachter, BR Klassik)

In May 2023, Karoline Weidt and her quartet presented their debut album, “Inviting” (Double Moon Records / Jazzthing Next Generation) and made a strong statement. With a lot of attention to detail, her crystal clear voice, jazzy and catchy compositions, Sebastian Studnitzky and Christopher Dell as guest stars and a lot of personal touches, it captures the typical KAROLINE WEIDT quartet aesthetic: “Delicate, but also determined, rhythmically filigree and yet full of tension. Music to listen to, to take seriously, but also to enjoy.” (Matthias Bäumel, jazzzeitung.de).
